Southwest Ireland Bicycle Tours - Travel to the Region
The most convenient international airports are Dublin Airport and Shannon Airport.
There is a regional airport at Farranfore (also called Kerry Airport) and also in Cork.
Killarney has a rail link with Dublin (from Dublin Heuston Station; change in Mallow) operated by Irish Rail.
Bus Eireann operates intercity and regional bus services throughout Ireland.
It is generally not necessary to book in advance during the week on buses or trains – if you turn up 10 minutes before the scheduled departure time you can buy your ticket on the spot. At weekends it may be advisable to book in advance for some journeys – you can book online (see links below).
Bikes (boxed or unboxed) are carried free of charge on buses in the luggage compartment beneath provided there is space.
Bicycles (boxed or unboxed) can be carried in most (but not all) intercity trains – either in the guard’s van (if there is one) or in a designated space in the carriage. A ticket is required – cost is dependent on distance travelled. There are normally up to six spaces, allocated on a first come, first served basis.
It is advisable to contact the station of origin the day before you travel to check the bicycle status of the train that you plan to take.

Dublin Airport / Dublin City Centre
Dublin Bus runs an airport shuttle from Dublin Airport to Dublin City Centre, calling at the main bus station (Busaras) and railway stations (Heuston and Connolly).
From Dublin Heuston Station there are trains to Killarney (change in Mallow).
Bus Eireann runs intercity buses from Dublin Bus Station (Busaras) to Killarney (change in Limerick).
There are frequent buses (Bus Eireann) from Shannon Airport to Killarney bus station (2hrs 50 min / every 2 hours with change in Limerick). Alternatively a taxi transfer can be arranged directly to your accommodation in Killarney (reserve in advance).
Kerry Airport at Farranfore
Take a taxi from the airport directly to your accommodation in Killarney (ideally reserve prior to travelling). Alternatively there are frequent (hourly) Bus Eireann buses to Killarney bus station (25 min/every hour).
