Bike Hire

You have the option to rent a bicycle or to bring your own bike for your Iron Donkey tour. Most of our clients choose to rent bicycles and /or equipment. While the specific rental bicycles may vary from tour region to tour region, you will be provided with a high quality, well maintained and fully serviced bike whatever destination you choose. Please check the available options that are listed alongside each tour. In most regions we will have hybrid, road, touring and e-bikes available. We will endeavour to provide you with the exact bike listed. On occasion, due to availability, the bike you receive may be a different make or model to the one listed, but will be very similar in terms of spec and quality.

You will be provided with a puncture repair kit, spare tubes, a lock, a mini pump and a bike tool with your bike, as well as a helmet. Please note that the bikes will be fitted with standard platform pedals unless you request otherwise. If you are using spd pedals it may make sense for you to bring your own, as there can be issues with compatibility.

If you are planning on carrying your own gear in panniers, a road bike will not be suitable, and you should consider a hybrid or touring bike.

You will be expected to perform basic maintenance yourself, such as changing out a flat. For more serious problems we will be on emergency standby.

If you choose to bring your own bike, please ensure that it has had a full service by a qualified mechanic before you travel, and ask us about looking after your bike box and getting it to your final destination for you.

If you are accustomed to navigating with gps, feel free to bring you own, with the suitable connections for the bike. We will be happy to transfer through the gpx tracks for your routes ahead of travel. You may also be able to rent a gps unit from us with pre-loaded routing, depending on your region and availability.
